Vermicelli Upma/kichadi


This recipe serves 2.

Ingredients:

  • Vermicelli/Semiya - 250 grams
  • Veggies - (potato-1,onion-1,tomato-1,green peas-1 handful,carrot-1,beans-6,capsicum-1)
  • ginger - a 2 inch piece
  • green chilli - 2 to 3
  • salt - to taste
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Chana dal - 1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves - few
  • turmeric powder - a pinch
Method:

  • Roast the vermicelli in a tsp of ghee till it turns golden brown.
  • Chop the veggies finely.
  • Heat a tablespoon of ghee in a kadai and add mustard seeds.
  • When it splutters,add chana dal and saute till golden brown.
  • Add onions,curry leaves,geen chillies,ginger and saute till onions turn transparent.
  • Add other veggies one by one and saute each of them for a min.
  • Add enough water and cook covered with salt till all the veggies are cooked.
  • Add some more water and when it boils,add the roasted semiya and stir continuously till it gets cooked.(Adjust the quantity of water)
Serve hot with coconut chutney.
