Manathakali/Black nightshade vathal


Manthakkali has a lot of medicinal values.It is most effective for liver disorders such as chronic enlargement of the liver and associated symptoms like blood from the mouth, mucoid stools, and other skin manifestations.The tender plant is used as a vegetable and if you suffer from painful periods this is a harmless and very effective home medicine.Refer to Home Remedies section for the recipe of the medicine.Manathakkali Keerai – has lot of vitamins in it. It is good for mouth & stomach ulcers.For fevers, diarrhoea, eye diseases,hydrophobia; the berries are used.
Here is the recipe to make vathals with these manathakkali.

Ingredients:

  • Manthakkali/Black Nightshade(tender ones) - 200 to 4oo grams
  • Salt - as per the quantity of manathakkali
  • (refer Method)
  • Sour curd - refer method
Method:
======
  • Wash the green tender manathakkali thoroughly.
  • Measure them with a cup. For every 200 grams of berries,add 5 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add sour curd until the berries are completely soaked.
  • Stir the mixture and keep aside for 2 days stirring once or twice a day.
  • Once they are soaked,take them out of the curd and dry them in the sun throughout the day.
  • Use a plastic sheet to dry.
  • In the evening put them back into the remaining curd.
  • Repeat this daily until the curd is completely soaked in by the berries.
  • Dry them nicely and store in airtight containers.

When required,Use them for making vathakozhambu.Also you can fry them in ghee and have it with rice and pappad.
